The International Living Future Institute™ announced last night the recipients of its 2013 Living Building Challenge™ Heroes Award.  The new Heroes were recognized at the Institute’s Big Bang Dinner, part of its annual Living Future unConference.

Oregon BEST and the International Living Future Institute today announced the four finalists in their Red List Design Challenge, which carries $15,000 in cash prizes and was launched to foster development of non-toxic building products and launch new Oregon companies.

Conferences and unConferences tend to engender a sense of euphoria. We enjoy the change of scene, we marvel at the ideas and innovations of our peers and heroes, and we find kindred spirits. The days tend to whirl by and before we know it, we're back at our desks. As days turn to weeks, the inspiration inevitabely begin to fade. Unless of course, the unConference happens to be Living Future.

I started my Monday morning off bleary-eyed, heading north on Interstate 5 at sunrise1. A colleague and I were making our way from Portland to Seattle to attend the grand opening of the Bullitt Center, a six-story office building pursuing certification under the Living Building Challenge, and the site of the International Living Future Institute's new Seattle office.

The International Living Future Institute announced today the appointment of three new members to its board of directors. The new members, George Salah, Coretta Anderson, and Richard V. Piacentini, will formally begin their board service at the organization’s May board meeting.
