The Process of Placekeeping: Indigenous Frameworks for Regenerative Design
This CEU Webinar is available to Living Future Professional Members.
The linear, de-contextualized nature of conventional design processes can often conflict with the creation of truly regenerative outcomes. The good news is that alternative approaches exist, and have for a long time.
For this month’s Member Webinar, we’re honored to welcome Wanda Dalla Costa, a member of the Saddle Lake First Nation, founder of the Indigenous Design Collaborative, and Principal at Tawaw Architecture Collective. Wanda will share her Indigenous Placekeeping Framework—a design methodology she’s championed for decades—alongside other Native-led approaches and emerging research. We’ll also be joined by Jeff Roberts, an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation and an experienced architect and educator, who will offer his perspective on the essential role that Indigenous designers will play in leading the building industry’s transition to a more regenerative future.
This webinar will be the second in our three-part Equity for the Built Environment series. We hope you can join us!
• Describe the Indigenous Placekeeping Framework and how it differs from conventional, western design methodologies
• Relate the purpose and advantages of the Indigenous Model of Design and Living Systems Framework
• Recognize the critical role that Indigenous leadership must play in the building industry’s transformation to a more regenerative design approach
