A global network dedicated to creating a healthy future for all

Regenerative Buildings

Buildings are essential to human survival, providing shelter. However, if the places we live, play, and work in are slowly destroying our environment, our need for shelter becomes a self-destructive force.

The built environment accounts for around 30% of all carbon emissions in both construction and maintenance. Our regenerative building programs aim to restore the balance between the natural environment and the built environment by building better structures that help us to steward the environment and are inspired by the beauty of nature.

Living Building Challenge

Create buildings that generate more energy than they use, capture and treat all water on site, and are made using healthy materials. The Living Building Challenge framework creates spaces that reconnect occupants with nature.

Zero Energy Certification

Save money by living within your means: Zero Energy buildings have best in class energy efficiency improvements of 60-90% over baseline.

Zero Carbon Certification

Zero matters. Zero Carbon certification is the only standard to measure actual decarbonization, not just reward carbon calculations or modest reductions.

Affordable Housing Initiative

We envision a future of Living Buildings for everyone. At a time where housing instability is reaching crisis levels, affordable housing is more important than ever.

Biophilic Design Initiative

What if we could experience the same physical, psychological, and emotional benefits moving through an urban landscape that we experience walking through a forest?

Living Community Challenge

Build nurturing and generous communities that create a positive impact on the human and natural systems that interact with them.

Sustainable Materials

If the materials our buildings are made from – and the products we use within them – are produced exploitatively and slowly poisoning us, it won’t really matter if our buildings are in harmony with nature because we won’t be around to enjoy them.

Through our sustainable materials programs, we’re aiming to make sure that our built ecosystem is just as healthy and resilient as the natural ecosystem.

Living Product Challenge

Make beautiful and functional products that are informed by nature, improve one’s quality of life, and are made with renewable sources of energy and materials.

Declare

Declare your intent to support human and environmental health. The Declare platform aims to share information about healthy building products on an easy-to-read “nutrition label.”

The Red List

The LBC Red List is a list of chemicals representing the “worst in class” substances prevalent in the building industry that pose serious risks to human health and the environment.

Equitable Organizations

There cannot be a truly healthy environment if it is not available to all people. At Living Future, we advocate for equity and justice in our environment, and the buildings and organizations that shape it.

A healthy environment must be accessible to all.

Just

Imagine a nutrition label for happy employees. Just is a transparency platform to help you communicate your commitment to a more equitable environment to your employees and customers.

Equity in the Built Environment

The EBE Initiative aims to develop transformational equity and justice frameworks for the building industry by setting a new benchmark for holistic integration of equity in all program requirements.
