Erica McBride, LFA

Regenerative Operations Manager, Architectural Nexus

(she/her)
Living Future Member since 2018

Erica has been with Arch Nexus since 2017 when she started as Operations Support Specialist in the firm’s Sacramento office. She successfully operated the firm’s office during the Living Building Challenge performance period and has since become an Associate and the Regenerative Operations Manager for Architectural Nexus. She helped design and certify the Arch Nexus SLC office for Petal certification. She is currently managing the building to achieve the Energy Petal so the building can obtain full living certification in the near future. Her passion in regenerative operations helps encourage occupants to change their behaviors. Erica uses her knowledge of regenerative building systems to consult on other Nexus projects on the best approaches for regenerative operations at the commercial building scale. Erica works in tandem with the occupants of Arch Nexus SAC and Arch Nexus SLC to ensure continued authenticity and appropriate operation of the two certified buildings Arch Nexus owns and operates.

Maintaining a Living Building requires specialized and specific knowledge, passion, patience, and often long hours; demonstrating these day-to-day, Erica feels as though she has found her new calling advocating for sustainable changes for buildings and how they operate and are maintained. Her demonstrable passion for regenerative design as well as her expertise, constant care, and maintenance of these Living Buildings, has made Erica widely respected in this industry and in the Living Future community.

Erica is also a mom of two, maybe too much of a fan of all things Disney, a little too obsessed with “The Office”, and she has an unhealthy love of mustard.

What is the most important thing the Living Future community can do right now?

“Bring in other stakeholders. For instance, we have issues getting contractors to buy in–having more folks understand why we do this would make a huge difference.”
