Margaret Montgomery

In her 30+ year career as an architect, Margaret has been passionate about creating healthy places that reunite people with nature. A Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, she is also Principal and Global Sustainable Practice Leader for NBBJ, a global design firm, where she leads initiatives and projects with far-reaching impact, improving building performance and ecosystem vitality now and into a changing future. She believes that design at all scales—buildings, infrastructure, neighborhoods, and cities—is instrumental in creating that future in a way that achieves human needs and desires within the framework of a thriving ecosystem.

Margaret is deeply committed to a low-energy, high-performance built environment; she is a recent chair of AIA’s Energy Leadership Group and an enthusiastic participant in teaching and sharing principles of low-energy, high-performance design, most recently as a lecturer in Architecture 2030’s Zero Net Carbon Professional Training Program in Shanghai.
