Uma Patwardhan, LFA

Vice President of Sustainability, JLL

(she/her)
Living Future Member since 2019

As a Vice President in JLL’s North America Sustainable Buildings practice, Uma serves as a vital link between the commercial real estate industry and the Living Future mission. For over a decade, Uma has translated complex sustainability aspirations into scalable business strategies, moving high-performance standards like the Living Building Challenge (LBC) from niche concepts to mainstream requirements.

Having guided over 75 projects toward third-party green building certifications, including JUST labels for multiple organizations, Uma’s influence spans millions of square feet. She champions LBC as the “North Star” for institutional investors and corporate occupiers alike to embrace true accountability through measured, performance-based outcomes rather than theoretical goals.

Her journey with Living Future began in 2012 as a Sustainability Intern at Lake|Flato Architects, where she facilitated healthy materials advocacy for the Josey Pavilion, Texas’s first Living Building.  A former Living Future Auditor and Ambassador, Uma deepened her commitment to the movement by serving on the Organizational Equity Technical Advisory Board for JUST 3.0.

Based in Pittsburgh, Uma actively mentors the next generation of leaders committed to transforming the built environment through sustainability and resilience.
