Matt Roberts, PhD is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for the Built Environment, UC Berkeley, leading research in embodied carbon and life cycle assessment (LCA). Current research focuses on carbon offsets, embodied impacts of MEP systems and development of consequential LCA for building applications. Dr. Roberts wants to enable everyone in the building design process to engage in conversations surrounding sustainability and drive real reductions in environmental impacts for a sustainable future.

Originally from Canada, Matt has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and International Studies in Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, a Master’s degree in Conservation of Historic Buildings, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Architecture and Civil Engineering from the University of Bath, UK. Matt’s PhD focused on LCA methodology applied to impact reduction strategies for the built environment.

In his personal time, Matt is an avid swimmer, enjoys being outdoors, draws portraiture and does architectural photography.
